Sleeping at Last

Are you sure this name does not ring a bell? Think hard because I'm sure you've at least heard one song from this incredible man. Why? Because his songs are often featured in Tv Shows or movies. Want a few examples? Grey's Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, Bones, The Fault in our Stars, Twilight: Breaking Dawn,... And this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Originally a band created by two teenage brothers and a friend in Chicago, Sleeping at Last is now a solo project carried out by Ryan O'Neal.

The band built a strong musical identity and uniqueness that attracted the Smashing Pumpkin's frontman attention, Billy Corgan. Not long after, in 2002, they secured a deal with Interscope Records and released their first album "Ghosts" in 2003. This led them to play alongside numerous bands such as Switchfoot, Yellowcard, Lifehouse and Alanis Morrisette, to name a few.

Now a one-member band, Sleeping at Last continues to share his marvellous vision of the world with his mystical and powerful music.

The "Yearbook" project must have been a lot of hard work but I have to say, the result is mesmerizing. Here's the concept: the band would write three songs that would be released every first day of each month during one year. The EP would be released under the name of the same month with a unique and beautiful watercolour piece of art for the album cover. Have a look at the result and buy it here.

He released several EPs in 2013 :"Atlas: Space 1" and "Atlas: Space 2" featuring 6 songs with the names of planets from our solar system, "Atlas: Light" and "Atlas : Darkness". 2014 promises to be very productive since he already released 2 EPs : "Atlas: Land" and "Atlas: Oceans" as well as a Cover EP.

Always productive and giving, O'Neal's "Covers" EP is a new wrapped-up gift for all the fans. With songs like "Total Eclipse of the Heart", "Ruby Blue", "99 Red Balloons", "Every Little She Does Is Magic", or "I'm Gonna be (500 Miles)" remastered "à sa sauce", this EP is really worth it.

If you thought that such songs had already been covered enough, think again!

In other words, just go buy it, or buy them. Why? Because this does not happen often that I come across so many albums with hardly any song I don't like. Moreover, the artwork chosen for the albums is just incredibly beautiful! It's a true piece of art that you could hang on your wall, no kidding.

Finally, it is hard, even impossible to choose from this wide range of really good songs, although for me, I will say that "Quicksand" is one of my favourite because it's the first song I heard from this incredibly gifted band/man. I'm also fond of the beautiful "Atlantic", the dreamy and deep "Mercury", the powerful "Earth" and "Light".

Still hesitating? Just go check his website already!
